SYSTEMA is a gathering of affinities, offering a social space that provides a venue and visibility for independent spaces, artist- or curator-run initiatives, and non-profit collaborative projects. Program

Thursday 28th August 2 – 8 pm Public Opening 2 – 8 pm Open Call for Nothing (or Open Call for an Open Call) by Provisional School For Nothing (Sabóia, Portugal) Ongoing activation · Salle Tomasi & Various Locations + Invited by SYSTEMA   “Over 4 days, we won’t just learn (or unlearn) — we’ll co-create an exhibition together with the Provisional School for Nothing at the Palais Carli, Marseille, as part of Systema 2025.”   Provisional School For Nothing aims to think about the school, not as an institution but as a foundation, a primordial principle for action, for a worldview, for living together, as a broad social construction. The school we imagine is a school of reform, a place of revolution, resistance, participation, a provisional exercise, not effective, in transition, not fixed, for nothing, not productive, and the creative use of leisure through artistic and performative practice. A school that opposes No-How to the instituted Know-how. KC Tour de France by KC (Karaoke Cowboy) Everyday at 5 pm · Main Staircase + Invited by reclame Duration : 30 minutes   “For SYSTEMA, KC (Karaoke Cowboy), a singing and dancing persona shaped through karaoke, costume, and lo-fi performance, will appear daily at 17:00 on the main staircase for a 30-minute live act.”   Masaki Komoto (JP/NL) is a multi-disciplinary artist working with craft and performance to explore identity, humour, and the tension between sincerity and play. Since 2020, his persona Karaoke Cowboy has taken shape through karaoke videos and live acts that blur the line between the staged and the spontaneous. Underneath the humour and lo-fi aesthetic lies a deeper reflection on how we define and present ourselves online, in public, and in performance.
For reclame and SYSTEMA, he presents a new performance, slightly out of place, funny and genuinely sincere. GPS Records x SYSTEMA Listening Session — Big Ego (1978), John Giorno & Anne Waldman (1977), and Totally Corrupt (1976) From 6 pm · Main Courtyard + Invited by SYSTEMA Duration : 1 hour 18 minutes 40 seconds   “Drawn from three albums in the GPS Records catalogue, this mixtape brings together recordings from the 1970s that merge spoken word, performance, and sound. Captured in both live and studio settings, these works reflect a moment when artistic disciplines overlapped freely, creating space for experimentation, collaboration, and political urgency. Presented here in a condensed sequence of under one hour and twenty minutes, the selection offers a cross-section of an era when the boundaries between poetry, art, and music were constantly being redrawn.”    Laurie Anderson, Robert Ashley, Imamu Amiri Baraka, Otis Brown, Michael Brownstein, Charles Bukowski, William S. Burroughs, John Cage, Jane Freilicher, Philip Glass, John Giorno, John Gruen, Susan Howe, Erica Huggins, Taylor Mead, Eileen Myles, Frank O’Hara, Claes Oldenburg, Sylvia Plath, Ed Sanders, Patti Smith, Anne Waldman Friday 29th August 2 pm – 2 am Open Call for Nothing (or Open Call for an Open Call) by Provisional School For Nothing (Sabóia, Portugal) Ongoing activation · Salle Tomasi & Various Locations + Invited by SYSTEMA   “Over 4 days, we won’t just learn (or unlearn) — we’ll co-create an exhibition together with the Provisional School for Nothing at the Palais Carli, Marseille, as part of Systema 2025.”   Provisional School For Nothing aims to think about the school, not as an institution but as a foundation, a primordial principle for action, for a worldview, for living together, as a broad social construction. Since then, its goal has been to delight Riga residents and visitors with a regular program of exhibitions and various events, focusing on less-visited artistic phenomena that blend interests in the fundamental media of art – painting, sculpture, installations and sound, uncovering signs, casting webs to capture new ideas and exchanging confabulations. Since 427 opened, more than 70 exhibitions have been organized, not counting temporary events, as the gallery transformed into a strip club, tattoo parlor, CBD shop, dance club, video salon, kindergarten, etc. In 2021, the creators of the gallery published the “427 Years Book”, which summarizes the adventures of the gallery’s first seven years of existence.   427 will be presenting works by Evita Vasiljeva and Jānis Dzirnieks.   427’s participation was supported by The State Culture Capital Foundation (SCCF) of Latvia.
